Catching up on music links
Mark Skier's/Psychotoddler's Moshe Skier band plays a new Ayleh Varechev. I haven't quite caught all of the lyrics yet, but most (all?) of them seem to be from Psalm 20 (beginning at verse 8).
Courtesy of West Bank Mama, here's Idan Raichel and his band playing Mimaamakim. I searched the 'Net, but found only the lyrics, not the identity of the psalm from which they're taken. Could someone kindly enlighten me?

I haven't listened to the song but the title brought this to mind:
שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת:
מִמַּעֲמַקִּים קְרָאתִיךָ יְהוָה.
ב אֲדֹנָי, שִׁמְעָה בְקוֹלִי:
Continues:
תִּהְיֶינָה אָזְנֶיךָ, קַשֻּׁבוֹת-- לְקוֹל, תַּחֲנוּנָי.
RivkaYael, I've listened to the song a few times. My Hebrew is limited, but I'm not sure that the lyrics are all taken from that psalm, or, possibly, any other--it sounds to me as if Idan may be talking about a woman, since there seem to be, grammatically speaking, a lot of feminine endings.
I looked up the lyrics and I don't think the song was derived from tehillim (though the title was probably meant to be evocative).
Several of the songs on that album, one of the favorites in my house, are in Amharic. I don't have the CD nearby, but you may want to check that out.
Hm, sounds like an album that I should acquire.
